The OurDisk development team (Lyndon in particular) has been busy in recent months. This has resulted in some significant performance improvements to speed and usability across the OurDisk application.

So what’s happened?

It’s very technical, so I won’t go into too much detail but essentially we have changed how the application manages it’s memory usage to free up the ability for the server infrastructure to spend more time dealing with the key tasks that are most important.

The affects are:

• Faster navigation between categories and folders
• Faster uploads
• Faster downloads
• Across the board a 20% speed improvement!

We have also addressed a few usability issues in the group/user management area and planned our next release of features for release in the new year.

It’s a great way to share daily rushes or location shots with your production team within minutes.

Here’s an example:

You have filmed your day’s rushes and need feedback quickly from key stakeholders. Instead of burning to DVD and sending via the post, costing you valuable time and money, you can upload it to OurDisk.

Your client or team can view it immediately using their own secure login to access the videos. When your client logs in they don’t need to download the file, they can simply view it in the browser (currently MP4 compatibility only).

Each user can add notes to about the file if you give them permission to do so. You can even track whether your client has logged to see the file.

Another exciting addition will be the ability to view your video files streaming to your mobile phone or iPad (due for release very soon).
